Spoil My Spouse - Take Two!
07 Feb 15:49
This is definitely one of the components of the SMS idea. However, I look at it as the second phase. The first phase is to build a community of people that are interested in spoiling their spouse. Then, having a package like you describe is the second phase where you monetize the traffic and community that you've created.
The problem with doing the packages initially is that you have to have the infrastructure to support the package processing and you have no bargaining power with vendors to get good prices. If you have a large community of people that will likely buy, then you can negotiate better pricing from vendors which then translates to either better profit or a better service or both.
Plus, adding services like the above are things that will continue to add momentum to the site as it continues to build.
I'd love to work with you on building that part. The key right now is for CH to determine what's going to be done with SMS and free up the RPs for it.

Hmmm....Re-reading the original idea, I think that TechGuy's vision of his site is completely different than what I was expecting. It looks like he is thinking of an idea site, rather than an action site. i.e, Guy gets ideas on things to do, rather than guy buys a package and things are sent to his sweetie.
hmmm....
I am tossing the idea around of posting this as an independant idea, but I think that it would be better as a subcomponent of the SMS site.
Idea- Spoiling packages. Guy pays $80.00 and gets a three month spoiling package. Kind of like a gift of the month club. He can specify the dates that the presents arrive or select random dates, Of course, larger or smaller spoiling packages are availible. I'll concede veto power over the gifts if I have to; but I think it is more fun if it is a surprise. These spoiling packages can partner with Prezzle for online gifts (or just an online teaser to expect the gifts?)
Let me know if this is too far away from the vision of SMS. Otherwise, I'd love to head up the effort on the subcomponent site.

I like the video explaining your ideas for the community. They are very ambitious and is perfect for CH. An MJ Manifesto (MJfesto?) would help orient users who want to become dedicated but can't easily go back and see all the hints and discussions that have been dropped in the previous months as well as help everyone here focus onto definite goals.
By the way, was the "gwabs-hinted" video all of the gwabs dd that's going to be posted?

I wish I was spam.
I think that's at least one comment per wish if you know what I mean. Thanks for the great enhancement.

Hot Ideas is a Monkey

I am quite intrigued by the "monkey" showing up on the screen like that. Definately something for got bug! But I am also compelled to point out that it looks like an infant orangutan, which is in fact an ape not a monkey. Monkeys have tails. Apes do not!
Oh yeah! Finally I get to put my primatology degree to good use!

SUGGESTION: IdeaMarket vs. IdeaWarz

Does anybody want to try the InklingMarkets system to predict the winner for the current IdeaWarz Tournament?
It's possible to set up a market on the Inkling site using information from the tournament. It is also possible to make it a private market. That means that only people who are invited by email can see the details (thereby maintaining privacy of ideas on Cambrian).
I suggest starting as soon as the first round is over given that that's tomorrow. That would leave us with 8 ideas from which to predict the winner using the prediction market. If you're interested, let me know - send me a CH email with your regular email address so I can issue the invite. Obviously i won't use the email address for anything else.

No Love for Prezzle?

Hey,
Thanks for the post. Yeah, Prezzle is at a stand-still for a moment. The Prezzle team has temporarily dissolved while priorities have been re-shifted to the new CH platform. Zach is now the only remaining team member on Prezzle, and he has taken some time off to recoup. I have moved over to Gwabs last month, but have temporarily been reassigned to Prezzle in terms of taking care of customer service issues. Zach will return in a couple of weeks to move Prezzle forward again from a business perspective. I believe some of his plans include moving Prezzle into the new platform and open it up more to the community.

What is Cambrian House?
What is Cambrian House?
Cambrian House (CH) is a web community site and company which aims to exploit the Wisdom Of Crowds to create new web-based businesses. It was formed in February 2006, and their main office is in Calgary, Canada. The early months were spent on marketing the concept so as to build a lagre enough user base to start generating useful ideas. This involved stunts like sending 1000 pizzas to Google, and viral marketing such as the pwn it puzzle. Thats how I found out about CH - the puzzle turned up on digg, which led me to the CH site.
The aims of the site are explained in this quote.
We're looking for software ideas that:
-
Target a mass market
-
Can be bought, sold, and distributed over the Internet
Think: Picasa, del.icio.us, iStockphoto,
Prosper, Prezzle, or Limewire.
CH aims to achieve this by building a community of users who not only think up product ideas, but also take part in the implementation and marketing. Prezzle was one of the first ideas to be developed, and was created from CH internally, but since then members ideas have been used.
One of the outstanding features of CH is that all contributions are rewarded. Submit an idea, and you get Glory Points, which will be redeemable for shirts and other goodies. If your idea wins one of the regular idea competitions, it will qualify for a market test. The reward for these is Royalty Points, which are effectively shares in any profit generated, and also $10k in funding to start the project off.
You can also earn Royalty Points by contributing to the development of products by undertaking various tasks, such as coding, graphics, or copywriting.
